I Am The Back-Up Parent, The Under Study:

Coming fresh off his 2004 success "Sideways", director and Oscar winning screenwriter Alexander Payne (Sideways, About Schmidt) presents "The Descendants":

Payne, who is possibly one of the many writers of today tackling the "American sap" storyline finds himself working with George Clooney (Syriana, Up In the Air) who can be described as the king of "American sap". I am not going to lie, this trailer is somewhat a disappointed from someone who throughly enjoyed "Sideways". I expected Payne to be a little more bolder with his next project. But I guess I can't completely judge this entirely just yet. Clooney so far looks to be reprising his role from "Up in the Air". The old sap who forgot about life and focused on something else only to realize how he missed the signs and the beautiful things that he could've accomplished besides his selfish goals. Hopefully the movie changes that interpretation to something more unique and deep.

To me the biggest surprise about this trailer is Shailene Woodley (The Secret Life of The American Teenager). For a young actress like herself, she seems to be a scene stealer.

"The Descendants" premiers December 16.
